The first step to getting started with Bitcoin is to inform yourself in order to use it securely and avoid pitfalls.
- Download a wallet on your phone / computer or use a web based one. Make sure to backup your private keys. Once you have set up your wallet you will be able to generate your first Bitcoin address which is equivalent to your “bank account number”.
- Use an exchange to purchase your first bitcoin. Since bitcoin and any other cryptocurrency is made up of fractions you do not have to purchase one bitcoin but any amount you wish. Most exchanges accept transfers and even credit card deposits of “fiat” currencies.
- Send your newly purchased bitcoin to the wallet address you have created in step 1 to keep it safely or spent as you wish.
